About Our Services
Q: What is Cement Based Screed?
A: It is a cement based liquid floor screed which is self-compacting and gives a smooth and level floor surface. It is used for its rapid application and quick drying properties with minimum after care.
Q: What depths of screed are recommended?
A: There are various cement based screeds available depending on your needs. As a standard, we recommend 50mm on an insulated floor as a minimum. There are some products we use which allow a minimum depth of just 12mm.
Q: What depth of screed coverage is required over underfloor heating?
A: 25mm is the minimum requirement over the UFH pipework.
Q: How long before I can walk on the floor?
A: The floor surface will be suitable for light foot traffic between 24 – 48hrs after installation.
Q: How long before I can tile?
A: The time depends on the depth of screed applies. As an example, for a 50mm depth screed the maximum time would be 28 days. Screed must be dried to a moisture content of 2.5%CM or a relative Humidity of 75%.
Q: Is it true that I have to sand the screed?
A: Cement based screed does not require any sanding to remove laitance however a light abrasion is recommended to remove any building residue and to create a good key for final floor coverings.
Q: Do I have to commission underfloor heating before tiling?
A: Yes, this should be prior to any tiling being placed. The UFH should be commissioned following the manufacturer’s guidelines and after a minimum of 7 days post screed installation.
Q: Do I have to prime the screed?
A: It is best practice to prime the floor prior to any adhesives or floor coverings being applied.
Q: Can I use renewable, solar or low energy sources such as Ground and Air Source Heat pumps with under-floor heating and your screed?
A: Yes, it is ideal for this application.
